Facial Mapping Foundations Programme

This core introductory programme establishes fundamental competency in sonographic imaging. Fully aligned with BMUS guidance for ultrasound in aesthetics, this course ensures practitioners are fully equipped to perform facial mapping, utilising ultrasound to see beneath the skin’s surface and plan their aesthetic treatments accordingly.

Program Duration

Estimated 8 weeks (including online theory, practical attendance, and case study submission).

Method of Assessment

Online theory MCQ exam, practical observation and the completion and submission of three written case studies.

Core Topics

Spatial & Directional Terminology: Navigating facial planes and standardising anatomical locations accurately.

The Facial Framework: Understanding the facial skeleton, deep anatomical structures, muscles, and fat pads.

Ultrasound Physics & Tissue Decoding: Deciphering echogenicity (hyperechoic, hypoechoic, and anechoic layers) to differentiate skin, fat, SMAS/muscle, and bone.

Vascular & Layer Identification: Spotting high-risk facial arteries, nerves, and superficial versus deep layers.

Acoustic Coupling & Artefacts: Managing gel layers, product integrity, acoustic shadowing, and troubleshooting image distortions.

Ergonomics & Stabilisation: Mastering anchor techniques, micro-movement control, and patient comfort to avoid tissue distortion.

Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANT): Implementing rigorous infection control and sterile scanning protocols specific to aesthetic ultrasound.

Please note that completing the Facial Mapping Foundations programme is a mandatory prerequisite for undertaking the Targeted Dissolving programme.

Model Requirements

For Facial Mapping Foundations: Participants must bring a model who has either previously had dermal filler or has never had filler before.

For Targeted Dissolving: Participants must bring a model who has previous filler and specifically requires targeted dissolving.

Model Coordination Fee: If you are unable to provide your own model, a £125 model coordination fee will apply so we can arrange one for you.

Who Is This Training For?

This training is designed specifically for aesthetic practitioners who meet the following criteria:

Level 6 or Level 7 Qualification

Both medically and non-medically trained practitioners holding Level 6 or Level 7 qualifications within the aesthetic sector.

Injecting Experience

A minimum of 12 months of active injecting experience.
